After all the planning, organizing and general running around, most newly married couples look forward to their honeymoon as a chance to unwind, relax and ease into married life in style. Where to spend your honeymoon is an important decision and should take account of your budget, the time of the year, and the sorts of things you and your new spouse want to do while you are away. Here are some suggestions for the best places for a honeymoon in 2017.
Acapulco
Although this ocean-side Mexican resort is often associated with college-age party-goers at spring break, it has been a popular honeymoon destination since Jackie Kennedy began married life there with JFK, and travellers from the US will be happy to see how far their budget goes in 2017. The newly developed Diamonte area is removed from the old city, and features many new hotels with high-end amenities. Look for an adult-only hotel with special packages for honeymooners. This destination is best for those honeymooning from November to May, unless rain is part of your honeymoon plans!
Niagara Falls
An oldie, but a goodie, honeymooning in Niagara Falls never goes out of style. Known as the “honeymoon capital of the world,” this destination has built a reputation for providing top-notch speciality services with newlyweds in mind. There are many hotels to choose from on both sides of the border to suit every budget. The Falls are only a 20 minute drive from Niagara-on-the-Lake, famous for its theatre scene, and close to the many world-class Niagara vineyards.
London
If an urban honeymoon is more your style, you can’t beat London in 2017. The falling pound has made this notoriously expensive city more affordable for many people, and there is no end to the sights, sounds and flavors of this amazing city. Take advantage of the proximity to Paris (just a 2 hour train ride away) to spend a few evenings in the City of Love. Or, rent a car and visit some of charming villages just outside of the city.
Florida Keys
This is a great choice for couples who want the natural beauty of a Caribbean getaway but want to stay closer to home. Rent a car and drive the Florida Keys’ Scenic Highway to visit Key Largo, Big Pine, Key West and many other iconic Florida islands. Once you have settled down, take advantage of the opportunity to relax on the Keys’ gorgeous warm-water beaches. The most affordable time to go is between June to September, but be aware that hurricanes might join you!
Antigua, Guatemala
Newlyweds interested in something more adventurous won’t be disappointed by Antigua. Surrounded by volancoes and hotsprings, active honeymooners will have plenty of options for outdoor activities – hike up active volcanoes, or take a mountain bike, canopy or coffee tour – all easily and affordably arranged. Relax after a busy day in nearby hotsprings, and spend time strolling through the colonial streets of nearby Antigua.
There is definitely a perfect destination for every honeymooner in 2017!
